The Bulldogs finished with 7 points on Friday at the Regional Tournament hosted by Holland High School, just 3 pts. behind qualifying for the State Tournament. BC finished ahead of Holland and Wyoming, but behind Portage Northern, Mattawan, Portage Central & Battle Creek Lakeview.
Regional Champion at 4th Singles from Byron Center was Caden Shooltz who won 6-4, 7-5 over Portage Central before coming back from behind in the SF match 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. In the Finals, Shooltz defeated the Top Seed from Battle Creek Lakeview 6-4, 7-5. This Bulldog finishes his season with a 26-1 record, with the best singles record in school history.
At 2nd Singles, Enrique Domeier also won for Byron Center on Friday defeating his opponent, the Number 2 Seed, from Mattawan. Domeier was down 1-4 in the 1st set and 2-4 in the tiebreak behind winning in the tiebreak 8-6. In the 2nd set, he found himself down 1-5 before losing it 6-4. However, in the 3rd Set, he took control and won 6-3. In his next match, he lost 7-5, 6-3 to Battle Creek Lakeview. Domeier finishes the season with a record of 22-5.
Jaiden Karem at 3rd Singles won his 1st Match on Friday against his OK Green Conference Opponent from Holland 6-1, 6-0 before losing to Battle Creek Lakeview 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Karem finishes the season with a record of 22-4.
In Doubles Action, the unseeded team from Byron Center at 3rd Doubles, Ryan Armstrong and Alex Edson had one of their strongest matches of the season when they defeated the 2nd Seeded Team from Battle Creek Lakeview 7-6 (3), 6-2. They lost to Mattawan 6-1, 6-3 in the next round. Armstrong and Edson finish the season with a record of 14-8.
Our 4th Seeded Team from Byron Center, Nick Corey & Brayden Birtles lived up to their seed beating Wyoming 6-0, 6-1, before going down 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to the 1st Seed from Portage Central. Birtles & Corey finish up the season with a 9-7 record at 4th Doubles.
