Your 3rd ranked Byron Center Bulldog tennis team travelled to Midland MI on Saturday to battle against 2 top ranked teams in the state. The first match BC beat Grosse Pointe North 7-1. In the second match, BC played #6 ranked Portage Central and beat them 7-1 with clutch wins coming from Justin Karem at 2 singles and Ryan McKendry at 3 singles. The marquee matchup of the day came next against #2 ranked Midland Dow. BC lost the match 6-2; however, 4 of the 8 matches lost were in 3rd set 10 point tiebreakers, and 3 of those were by 2 points. “It was a fantastic match against Dow”, said Byron Center head coach Andy Ely. “Give credit to Dow; they are a very good team. The overall match score was exceptionally close; truly as close as it could have been, and those who saw it, know either team could have won today. I was very proud of how hard we played.” Next up Byron Center takes on conference opponent Jenison at home on Monday at 4pm. It will also be a BCTV match.
